IOWA CITY — Delegates to a special nominating convention of the Johnson County Democratic Party have selected Jon Green of Lone Tree as the party’s nominee for county supervisor. Green will go on to face the Republican candidate, Phil Hemingway, in a special election on Tuesday, June 8th, 2021.

According to the convention rules, a candidate had to receive a majority vote (50% + 1) of the delegates present and voting to win. Because no candidate received a majority vote on the first ballot, voting extended to three ballots. Green became the nominee in the third round.

Four candidates in total were nominated at the convention: Scott Finlayson of Iowa City, Meghann Foster of Coralville, Jon Green of Lone Tree, and Susan Vileta of Swisher.

The results for each round of voting are below:

Round 1 – 281 delegates present and voting

  • Finlayson – 83
  • Foster – 84
  • Green – 105
  • Vileta – 9
