Daily Iowan Editorial on County Auditor

In an editorial today in the Daily Iowan, the Editorial Board addressed the question of why the county auditor is a partisan office, urging this state law to changed. They seem to think that all an auditor does is “count the votes” and that there are no issues on which political parties differ. They seem to be unaware of issues involved with voting such as vote suppression (by some) and vote verification.

They also questioned whether public officials should use Twitter to speak out on issues. The Board seems to think this is uncommon. One only needs to look at the auditors page for Linn County
(http://www.linncounty.org/department.asp?Page_Id=379&Dept_Id=6)
to see this is not an unusual means of communication.
