Information on registering to vote and updating voter registration can be found on the Johnson County Auditor’s website.

Why go virtual?

The committee decided to move to virtual caucuses for two reasons:

  1. The pandemic is not over. Omicron continues to spread in Johnson County, and we do not want our caucuses to be a vector for more infections. (See NYT’s data on Omicron in Johnson County if you’re interested).
  2. We believe that our caucuses should be open to all Democrats, including those in high-risk populations. We can achieve that goal this year by moving our caucuses online.

Regarding Candidate Nomination Petitions

One of the traditional aspects of our midterm caucuses that we cannot replicate virtually is the very important process of signing nomination petitions.

We have repurposed three of the in-person caucus prep events and turned them into drop-in signature collection locations.  Please stop by one of our petition signing events to help a Democrat get on the ballot. Social distancing will be observed and masks will be required.

If you are a Democratic candidate who will be on the ballot in at least one precinct in Johnson County, we will distribute your nomination petition at these events! You just have to get us a copy of your nomination papers by doing one of two things:

  1. Deliver your nomination papers to either John Deeth (email) or Leah Jesse (email) sometime before the event. You can contact them by email to coordinate a way to deliver them.
  2. Just bring them to the petition signing event!

Petition signing events will be held on three dates:

  • Saturday, January 29th, 12:30pm – 5:00pm, Iowa City Public Library
    • Room: Meeting Room A
    • 123 South Linn St. Iowa City
    • Setup begins at 12:00pm
    • This is the former time of the packet stuffing party. Candidates should still arrange to get papers to us at or before this event.
  • Saturday, February 12th, 9:00am – 12:00pm, Coralville Library
    • Room: E. Jean Schwab Auditorium
    • 401 5th Street, Coralville
    • Setup begins at 8:30am
  • Saturday, February 19th, 10:00am – 1:00pm, North Liberty Library
