IDP Announces District & State Convention Timelines

Today, the Iowa Democratic Party announced its timeline for our congressional district and state conventions. They have decided that these will be remote conventions and conducted in a manner similar to our county convention. If pandemic conditions subside before the deadline, this could change, but for now, please plan for convention business to be decided by absentee ballot.

2020 Iowa State Democratic Convention Current Plans from the Iowa Democratic Party

We are also making the difficult decision to hold the state convention remotely. While gatherings in large groups may be permissible by June, we have to plan based on the reality we’re in now. We feel it’s best for Iowa Democrats to know what the plan is with as much notice as possible. So, we are making the decision now to plan for a remote state convention. Here’s the current timeline:

May 22:           Deadline for nominations: National delegates, State Central Committee

June 3:            Ballot window opens

June 10:          Ballot window closes

June 13:          Election tabulations complete

June 14:          Iowa Delegation Conference Call + elections

Business to be conducted:

  • Election of Party Leaders and Elected National Delegates
  • Election of At-Large National Delegates
  • Election of Democratic National Committee Members
  • Election of State Affirmative Action Chair
