Upcoming Opportunities to Volunteer

The Johnson County Democratic Party participates in many events throughout the year. Most of the events listed below are hosted by other organizations, but we’ll be at least attending each. Note that there are many opportunities to volunteer and get involved, especially in terms of registering voters. If you have questions about one of these events, please email Leah Jesse.

As part of our community outreach, the JC Dems sponsor the free lunch program once a month in even numbered months. If you’d like more information about contributing time or money to the program, please inquire with robin.roseman@gmail.com. The next free lunch will take place August 4; please scroll down for more info.

If you want to offer your services generally for the future, please feel free to fill out our volunteer form.

The JC Dems will be marching in the Lone Tree parade on August 19. As always, you’re encouraged to wear a Democrat-related shirt and bring extra candy to give away as we march. We haven’t been notified what time line-up and marching will take place yet, so we’ll post these details as we receive them.

Celebrate Iowa’s Latino community while you represent the Johnson County Democrats on Saturday, August 26. Join us at our exhibitor table in the Iowa City ped mall, where we’ll talk about the issues, share information, and register voters.

August 26, 2017 – East Side Dems Canvas Training
East Side Dems Volunteer Sign-Up

This training is geared towards canvassers new and experienced! Join the East Side Dems to learn why, when, where, and how to canvass. An in-depth review of all the steps involved will be presented, as well as tips of the trade from canvassing experts. You will also have the opportunity to practice a variety of canvassing scenarios so that your first (or next) canvasses can be done with confidence! This event will take place from 2-4 pm in the Education Center at the East Side Recycling Center (2401 Scott Blvd SE). You must sign up to attend, as slots are limited.

October 6, 2017 – Free Lunch Program
1105 Gilbert Court, 9:30-11:30 & 11:30-2:00ish

The first Friday of every even-numbered month (February, April, June, August, October, December) the Johnson County Democrats and OFA cook and serve the free lunch program. We usually serve around 120 people.

The first shift (9:30-11:30) is prep. We make the food, clean the dining room, take down the chairs, prepare the drinks–anything that needs to be done before the doors open. The second shift (11:30-1:30ish) is when we serve and clean-up. If you are interested in helping during one of the shifts please let Robin Roseman (robin.roseman@gmail.com) know. It is an enjoyable event.
