Minutes of July 2013 Central Committee Meeting

Johnson County Democrats Proposed Central Committee Minutes

Thursday, August 1, 2013

30 People signed in

Jerry Teal (Mayor Pro-Tem of North Liberty) welcomed the Johnson County Democrats to North Liberty

  • North Liberty is the 2nd fastest growing Community in the state
  • There will be many great improvements to 965 in the next few years

Gubernatorial candidate Representative Tyler Olson made his 2nd official Johnson County visit since announcing his run for Governor of Iowa (his first visit was early that day at Gus’s in Coralville).  I will share some of the notes I took (I’m sure there is a lot of paraphrasing).

  • He is from Cedar Rapids Iowa and works at his family business of 4 generations.  He has served 7 years in the State Legislature.
  • We need to look ahead to the next 30 years not the last 30 – Iowa’s future is not in the past but in the future
  • Economy needs to be built from the middle out.  We cannot continue to go for the short-term big win.  Innovation and creativity are needed.  Innovation in agriculture will be very important.
  • There is value in our skills – we need to make sure our people are educated in the skills needed.  Support Educators.  Skills are different now than they were in 1982.
  • Tyler said he would like to represent those people who don’t have a connection with the community.
  • We need to treat people with mental issues before it becomes a Justice Issue.
  1. Approval of Agenda – without objection
  2. Approval of July 11, 2013 Minutes – without objection
  3. Chair – Report
    1. It has been a busy summer with a lot of great volunteering – thank you!
    2. We need to be ready for the Governor’s race.  We need a Democrat in office.
    3. We need to get the skills to get our people elected
    4. Treasurer – Report – without objection
